Coffee Diaries: Calm Waters Coffee

Calm Waters Coffee Roasters opened its second location near me and I was very excited about having a new cafe to go to! There is something so cozy about wintry Sunday mornings when when the world seems to be a bit asleep. Nothing is dreamier than spending this time on the hunt for a coffee. There is plenty of parking, the smell of freshly brewed espresso in the air, and lots of window shopping to do (without jostling for sidewalk space). Another perk of getting there early…snagging the optimal spot — the front window!

I ordered just a plain latte but it was expertly and beautifully made. If you ever look at how lattes are made you know that every little detail - the temperature of the milk, the angle at which it is poured, etc - has to be considered. That is why I appreciate this artistry. Not to mention, it was really smooth and balanced. I normally do not add any sugar to my lattes, and this one didn’t even have the remotest hint of bitterness. It was really delightful! I wish I could have savored it longer, but it was nice to sit there and not drink out of a to-go cup for once.

Also: let’s take a moment to admire this beautiful tulip pour. It might just be the very best, ever.

The very opportunity to sit and enjoy this latte with my family was a privilege. It was a quiet and simple moment, just the three of us. A little too distracted (with baby) to people-watch, or make conversation, but it was perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We probably weren’t in there all of 15 minutes, but somehow just being there felt like a memory in the making. The perfect Sunday interlude.
