Autumn on the Island

This tradition is something I am falling more and more in love with - autumn on the island. It is sleepier, quieter, less frantic and more true. Everything feels clearer - the sunrises, the breeze from the sea, and even the night stillness. I did another 50 mm series to capture some of the highlights of our weekend. They call it the local summer for a reason…and it makes me yearn to be a local.

Undoubtedly, our accommodations on the beach front help us in every way to relax. Throwing open all of the windows to get an uninterrupted view of the sea is almost unbeatable. Perhaps it is rivaled by the sky-high panorama deck, which allows for miles-long views up and down our favorite sandy barrier island. Watching the ships out in the ocean has always been a favorite pastime of mine, but here at this house it is more about taking the time to watch the outrageously vibrant sunrises in the cooler September skies.

The joy of these weekend days are characterized by lots of pumpkin coffee, mid-day naps, and listening to the wind from a nearby open window. It is simple. It is slow. It’s the perfect way to ease into fall, in my opinion. How lucky we are to get to do this.
