Puppy Love | Watercolor Signs for Weddings

My VERY first large-scale calligraphy job was with a stunning bride who truly inspired me SO much with her amazing ideas and infectious love of all things "weddings" :) (I posted about her plum and gold wedding here). She had two cute puppies that were a big part of her and her fiance's life, and she wanted to infuse them into her wedding by having me create custom signature drink signs. The drinks, of course, were named after her pups! And I am happy to say that it has been an idea that keeps getting used by other brides.

To create the watercolor portrait of each dog, I start with a photograph provided by the bride. Then, I do a light sketch with pencil. The rest is pretty standard! These watercolor pieces require more finesse (and the right ink/paper combo) because the pointed-pen calligraphy is applied to the same paper as the art. One mess up and poof, it's over, time to start painting again from scratch! So that part adds a little pressure.

Watercolors aren't something I tout on the blog often, but it is one of my first loves from back when I first started blogging. So excited to share my creations with my gorgeous brides, with more fun projects coming up in the future!
