I recently did a reel all about this question — at what point do you say “yes” to a trend? The thing with trends is pretty obvious: they come and go, and the duration of a trend really can vary! If I were to adopt every new cutting edge look and trend, well - I don’t think I’d have personal style. Or any money in my bank account!

Personally, I try to really think about this while I am shopping. Call me crazy, but I listen to podcasts about retail trends and even follow Insta accounts like @databutmakeitfashion just to get an additional read on the pulse. When I am shopping, I also try to be super cognizant of what I am eyeing up (and why). Is what I am interested in going to last for years, or is it going to satisfy a temporary itch? Is it replacing something, fulfilling a true need? Or do I just like it and feel like trying something new?

I try to classify trends into two categories: macro and micro trends. A macro-trend is something that is longer-lasting and endures over time, while a micr0-trend lasts maybe only a season or two. I am definitely a macro-trends girl.

However, just because I am a macro-trends girl, I do think that there are some ways to have fun and live a little on the trendier side: through accessories, shoes, bags, even cosmetics.

I recently found a shoe brand that designs and creates shoes for women and by women: ALLY shoes. After doing a bit of browsing, I decided to try their block heel for its ergonomic design and insanely supportive arch. The amount of colors, textures, materials and designs was kind of overwhelming…and soon I had analysis paralysis. But then I thought to myself…have a little fun. Shoes and accessories are my favorite ways to dip into a little trend without feeling unreasonable or irresponsible. When I wear shoes, I really do WEAR them, and therefore they are being replaced more frequently in my closet compared to my knits, jeans, tops and pants. If they’re being replaced sooner, maybe enjoying a trendier fit or style isn’t the worst thing in the world!

I decided this was my perfect opportunity to experiment with a style I am seeing trending all over my social media and favorite retailers: the classic CAP TOE!

The cap toe design is elegant and classy, and it’s definitely having a moment right now. Whether you opt for a slingback, a point or rounded toe, bows, or a mix media approach, I am thinking that the cap toe is curiously hard to categorize. There are a lot of iterations of it but my favorite is by far ALLY’s Bossy Beige Leather Cap Toe Flat and Heel. This is as classic as it’s going to get, although there are some really fun looks out there right now that offer a playful take on textures and colors.
