Summer Capsule Wishlist

It’s hard to believe that this is my first blog post in the month of May…and it will probably be my only one because May is basically over!

MDW is the unofficial kickstart of summer - and new season in general. It has been a fun weekend, mostly of toddler type activities. We visited a new playground, an old playground, and did lots of work around the house and garden! I am getting excited for summer and looking forward to a little more ‘undone’ casual dressing. I am dreaming and scheming up smart additions for what will become my summer capsule. I will be becoming a stay-at-home mom for the next few months and I really need to focus on comfort and practicality for this capsule. I have done some organizing, clean outs, and storage in my closet to make room for my lightweight tees, shorts, and my favorite staple of all - the summer sundress.

I am always attracted to neutrals and timeless patterns/silhouettes, so you will be seeing a lot of that in this three-part capsule! I am envisioning early morning coffee runs at the beach, hustling to and from swim lessons, and lots of play time in the sunshine (hopefully it’s not a miserably humid summer). I’ll be running to appointments, hopefully booking some photo sessions, and also heading to the beach and mountains a few times. My capsule includes a lot of pieces and separates that can be mixed and matched based on occasion and setting. For instance, I will totally be wearing those linen pants to work but also I can see myself wearing them for evening beach strolls on vacation. I love the ease of dressing up (or down) a simple tank and shorts by changing up accessories or shoes. Summer is very forgiving in that way, especially since I won’t be in the office.

Edit 1: Cardigan | Linen Pant | Gold Buckle Sandal | H Sandal | Black Tank Dress | Floral Dress | White and Grey Tanks | Black Tank

Edit 2: White Chino Short | Knit Slides | White Button Up | Raffia Tote | Denim Short | Gold Locket | Striped Tank Dress | Suede Birkenstock Sandals

I love the idea of throwing on a dress for a day of knocking around the house, but sometimes a simple pair of shorts and a ribbed tank feel more intentional and put-together. It may loose and relaxed denim shorts, or classic and tapered button-up white shorts - both look good with a simple tank or tee! Ribbed tanks and tank dresses are also big in this capsule. They are universally flattering, and I love that the high-collar and open shoulders offers a sporty, yet supported look. Just need to make sure you have the right bra, preferably a racerback! For some days, dresses are an easy fix because it is an instant outfit. For dressier occasions (and maybe cooler nights) I love this Nothing Fits But dress because it can be styled a bunch of different ways, on or off the shoulder. For shoes, it seems like the Birkenstock Arizona silhouette is still dominating! Any chunky sole, thick-strapped sandal sounds like a good idea, and instantly sounds better than a regular old flip flop.

Strappy Sandal | Striped Coverup | Black Cover Up Top | Crossback Swimsuit | White Romper Coverup | Flouncy Skirt | Bucket Hat | Cutout Swimsuit (One Piece)

By the sounds of it this summer will be unlike any other because we will be in the pool A LOT! We have swim lessons lined up, and for the first time as a family we will have regular access to a pool because we joined a swim club. I am so excited to get some exercise in the water chasing after my little one. I am a bit worried about my hair highlights and the chlorine, but a high ponytail or well-fitted hat might help me out there 🤞🏼 For swimwear, it’s no surprise that I lean to black or navy. Dark colors make me feel and look my best, and I absolutely love Andie Swim and Summersalt swimwear because of the unbeatable quality! I love my Tulum one piece from last year and would buy it again in a heartbeat. I certainly miss having a tanned and toned tummy (thanks, postpartum body) but I love that this suit holds me in and cuts in all the right places (cough cough, great butt coverage). I plan on using button-up shirts, and shorts from my existing capsule for swim coverups, but I would love to get my hands on a cute romper or flouncy little skirt to wear over my swimsuit.
